![]() ![]() He’d seen how much they had destroyed, including all of the nobility and even the emperor himself. ![]() He’d seen the battlers the day the queen had arrived. He’d been told it was a small hive past the gate, one badly depleted by predators, though Gel couldn’t imagine what kind of predator would threaten sylphs. The sylphs danced around it, calling those on the other side to come through and join them. In the center of the chamber, a circle of noncolor gleamed, floating a dozen feet above the ground. Not in Meridal, where even human beings were once sold as slaves and sylphs had been nothing more than property. They were ecstatic with the idea of being free, the joy of being allowed to do what they wanted and to interact as they never had before the queen came. Over by the far wall of the massive chamber, Gel sat on the floor with his arms across the tops of his knees and watched the sylphs play. Air, earth, water, fire, healing, and battle, they whirled in a mad happiness that had no music. Despite the fact it was once a place used to lure and trap their kind, the underground chamber they used was now a brilliantly lit place of joy. There were hundreds of them, a storm of colors swirling around each other in a glorious celebration of life. ![]() ![]() ![]() You'll read it in one sitting Bookseller Remarkable, not-to-be-missed-under-any-circumstances Entertainment Weekly A gripping SF trilogy about an Earth decimated by an alien invasion. Here is the famous opening:Ī strange melancholy pervades me to which I hesitate to give the grave and beautiful name of sadness. Cecile, who narrates the story, was utterly self-absorbed, which was very affirming. ![]() As I read it again I can see that the father was amoral and his behaviour to his daughter plainly unhealthy. ![]() I was, of course very naïve, very impressionable and very self-absorbed when I read it. ‘A vulgar, sad little book’ said the Spectator, noting that it was written by a precocious 18-year old. Such were the effects of Bonjour Tristesse. I think I believed that this was how my ideal life would be, divided between sophisticated and cultured Paris and the charms of the summer spent in a villa on the French Mediterranean Sea. And it featured some very adult themes about a father with very modern ideas bout his relationships with women and about a young girl just coming into womanhood. ![]() ![]() It was about being very cool on the Mediterranean coast. The World Jesus Entered traces the roots of what would become the Christian religion during its first two centuries, from the time of Jesus to the second and third generations of Christian believers. The book uses quotes from 100's of historians, scholars and educators throughout the world-most of which head how and why scripture came into our world 3,000 years ago. ![]() With the NT, the book uses a Post-Modern viewpoint which I'm sure will cause more howls from evangelicals. With Hebrew scriptures the book uses a 'minimalist' approach to Jewish history rather than scriptural. My reasons is religion is thousands of years old and there is no one argument for the myriad of personalities that wrote out these scriptures! Also, this book is done in a 'question/answer' layout and is more aimed at the layperson rather than the scholar-although it still cites/annotates as much as possible. Unlike most books on the history of religions "Revisionist." doesn't have just one argument, rather 100's. ![]() A work nearly completed, the main thrust of this book is how pagan early religions, Judaism and later Christianity collided in the 4th century to form what we know as the Bible. ![]() ![]() She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough. ![]() Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies-sunshine and ponies.
